I have been involved in the stamping world for many years (since ’95) and played with the idea of joining Stampin’ Up!® as a demonstrator a number of times. Now that I have, I ask my self sometimes ‘Why didn’t I do it years ago?’
The reasons I had for not joining felt legitimate at the time, but when I look back, they could have been overcome quite easily. Actually some of them (I didn’t realise at the time) were not even something that made a difference with Stampin’ Up!®.
I was thinking I would have to be “demonstrating”/selling. Like in a business. Let me tell you now, NO! You don’t have to but you can if you want. There are different types of demonstrators.
- A Hobby Demonstrator – joins SU because they love buying the products for their own use at a 20% discount or higher – and may sometimes sell to neighbors, relatives and friends. So you don’t have to sell if you don’t want to.
- A Part-Time Demonstrator – loves doing workshops and earning extra money when it fits into her lifestyle.
- A Short-Term Demonstrator – sells for a short period of time to earn a specific amount of money and stops when the goal is reached.
- A Seasonal Demonstrator – works hard at the business during September, October, and November for seasonal money and maintains minimum orders and sales during the rest of the year.
- A Career Demonstrator – views a Stampin’ Up!® Demonstratorship as a viable business with long-term career potential.
SU has a very low investment ($AU169 or $NZ189) when it comes to joining. If you were to start a bricks and mortar business, you would be up for a small business loan and thousands of dollars in investment out of your own pocket. If you decide you no longer want to do it, even at the end of the first quarter, there is no penalties. You just stop spending.
