Hello my friend!, from sunny Adelaide, Australia.
Although we have had sunshine, we have also had, being Spring some cool southerly winds and a small amount of badly needed rain at times this past week. As much as I have wanted to get outside and enjoy the sunshine, walking and hanging washing, even a bit of gardening, I have put the brakes on myself and stayed rugged up inside with hot water bottle and my tools for managing my health. Tempting it has been to go out, but I have chronic back pain and it has been episodic this week and out of control. I am also fighting a throat infection. Therefore I enjoy the view out my windows, movies and crafting when I am able. Small birds dance, prance and bath themselves outside my lounge window, sometimes even venturing up close to the window. It is such a pleasure to watch.
Free As A Bird with Stampin' Up!
This week I have revisited the beautiful Free as a Bird stamp set, from the Annual Catalogue, and using the same stamp as last week. Four cards with the same layout, same die cut and same stamps, the only difference being the colours and look at the difference in each of them.
Die Cutting & Colouring
I die cut 4 tags from the 2nd largest of the Stitched Nested Labels Dies, and then stamped the birds on the branch in Black Ink onto the tags.To colour I used various Stampin' Blends colours and then trimmed all the left hand tag ends to the length I wanted. For these ones I trimmed just the triangular part.
Next I stamped, with matching and appropriate colours, the fronts of the base cards randomly with the leaf stamp and also the two different sized flower stamps. It is best practice here to use Classic Stampin' Ink from either your regular sized pads, mini Stampin' Spots that you have inked up yourself or lightly run the Stampin' Write Markers over the stamp.
I have made myself a set of Handy Layer Templates. This makes it so easy to use these to place on top of the card base and decide what size I would like to use. I am then able to quickly cut a piece of cardstock to the measurements written on the front of the desired template. For this card, I used the #2 template size (13.9x9.5cm). This is the deepest layer on the card, in velum and appropriate colours. I adhered them each to the base card with snail adhesive.
Finishing Off
Finally I used the snail adhesive again to adhere the stamped and coloured tag about half way down the left side of the card. Now these cards could be added to with more layers of colour, embellishments and sentiments if you would like. I am happy with mine just as they are.
I have 2 people already in mind that I am wanting to send a card to so I shall quickly write a note on each and pop one in the post and have the second hand delivered.
I have been stamping and making cards for many, many years and so have an accumulation of tools and products. Naturally I prefer to use up what products I have. In place of the coloured vellums you could just use White Vellum alone or put an additional layer of coloured cardstock under the vellum.
Below is all the products I used to make these cards.
